Vegan desserts? im addicted to sugar and dairy!?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: vegan desserts

My main problem is the sugar and dairy filled desserts! I recently decided to become vegan but im finding this hard to give up. in my efforts i bought a dairy free icecream, the brand ’so delicious’ but i found it SO GROSS! I really did not like it. im used to regular icecream taste. and i realized that all the desserts i like contain dairy. cheesecake, flan, cake, icecream, chocolate etc.

so what vegan options are there? i dont want recipes, im not much of a cook, just something i can buy at the grocery store.

There are many different kinds of vegan ice cream (soy, coconut milk, etc) so try different brands before deciding that they are all gross. Also your taste buts will change, so try them again in a month or two. Also try sorbets, which are usually dairy free.

Chocolate is vegan – the cocoa itself. You can find dark chocolate bars that are vegan. Cocoa powder (the kind for baking, now premade hot cocoa mixes) is vegan. Cakes are easy to make vegan, but you might want to learn to do a little basic cooking since it’s hard to buy vegan cakes already made.

Try "soy dream"- that’s another soy ice cream.

It will take some getting used to but if you commit to it (and do it for the right reasons) it will all be worth it.
Just like any addiction (and yes, I believe sugar and dairy have addictive properties) you have to simply cut them out cold turkey and go through a few days of cravings. After that, it only gets easier with time and soon the pizza commercial with globs of fattening cheese will totally gross you out!!
    Good luck.

Alpro soya dessert pots they come in chocolate, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and forest fruit flavours. They are fortified with calcium, omega 3 and 6 and vitamin B12 and they are yummy. Can eat straight from the pot or in a dish poured over a banana. I think Provamel do a similar type of thing too.

I make my own flapjacks a lot, I know you said you don’t cook but they are so easy just substitute vegan marg for the butter and add any dried fruit you like or vegan choc chips.

Hope this is helpful. Email me if you want the flapjack recipe.

I had the same problem when I went Vegan. When you are used to ice cream tasting a certain way, it’s hard to like the soy version. I gave up desserts for a while, then tried these Vegan desserts again and they were delicious. I guess if you haven’t had the real thing in a while, the fake stuff seems like heaven when you finally do get it. Now I love "good karma" rice ice cream, soy ice cream, even milk chocolate made with rice milk tastes wonderful. I even hated dark chocolate, now I love it. It just takes the taste buds a little time to adapt to new foods.
I buy sesame snaps by the box, raisins and nuts, or raisins and dark chocolate, make vegan nutella with almond butter, agave syrup and cocoa powder.
Craving the dairy is not weird, it is high in sugar and causes the body to want more, just stay strong until the high doses of sugar have left your system, you will not want it as much, and maybe you will find, as I did, that real cheesecake, actually tastes like salt, not sugar and is not as appetizing as you once thought.

Even though you’re not much of a cook, I would still recommend considering making some items yourself. There are tons of simple recipes available online, and it’s the best way to ensure that what you’re eating is vegan.

Otherwise, if you have a whole foods or trader joe’s nearby, sometimes there are some vegan desserts available there (just ask someone working there, they are pretty knowledgeable about what’s out there since the vegan movement has gained popularity). I found vegan donut holes, soy ice cream, vegan cookies, vegan cheesecake, vegan brownies, vegan cake, and vegan chocolate bars.

I’m not sure if you have those nearby, but even most local grocery stores are starting to carry a wider variety of products, including Terra Nostra Organic Rice Milk Choco Bars and Neuman-O’s.

I actually like soy ice cream, as well as the coconut milk ice cream, more than I ever liked regular ice cream, so I’m not sure if it’s just a matter of getting used to the flavor or not.

Otherwise, if you can afford it, you can always order from veganstore.com.

    Hope this helps :)

I would suggest you start cooking and baking yourself because that’s the only good way to be vegan so you know every single thing that goes into your food and you can make anything you are craving. Plus I think a lot of people would find cooking fun if they gave it a shot.

But check out your local whole foods or a store like it for vegan cookies and maybe some vegan cake in the bakery/deli part or there are also some websites that you could order vegan sweets from.
